What is IEEE Day?

IEEE Day 2025 takes place on Tuesday, October 7th – a global celebration of engineers who are driving progress across technology, electronics and innovation.
Held annually on the first Tuesday of October, IEEE Day bring together professionals, researchers and students from around the world to collaborate, exchange ideas and celebrate advancements in engineering.
If you’re in the semiconductor industry, this is a valuable opportunity to engage with global trends, connect with the wider tech community and explore how engineering continues to shape our future.
History of IEEE

Founded in 1884, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has grown into the world’s largest technical professional organisation, with more than 420,000 members in over 160 countries.
IEEE was created to help engineers share knowledge, support innovation and drive technological progress. The first IEEE Day took place in 2009 to highlight the power of international collaboration and the critical role engineers play in solving global challenges.
IEEE Day 2025 Events

Although it’s called “IEEE Day,” celebrations span the entire month of October. IEEE sections around the world host online and in-person events including:
- Technical webinars
- Expert panel discussions
- Student and professional competitions
- Networking and mentoring meetups
- Career development workshops

IEEE’s Role in ASIC Design & Verification

For ASIC design and verification professionals, IEEE is more than a standards body – it’s a core part of the ecosystem. Many widely used technologies stem from IEEE standards, including; SystemVerilog (IEEE 1800), UPF for low-power design (IEEE 1801) and more.
Additionally, IEEE offers a wealth of technical publications, journals and conference proceedings that keep semiconductor professionals informed and connected. Conferences like DAC, ICCAD and DATE often feature IEEE-aligned content that shapes future design practices.
